In this part of the programme families can learn about food labelling, food processing, sugar and fibre, and how the amount, timing and type of food we eat might affect our mood, concentration, energy levels and gut health. All of these affects occur over minutes and hours and therefore lend themselves to experiential learning (unlike abstract long term and often hidden impacts of nutrition on things like bone and heart health).
This section includes activities related to:
- Breakfast cereal packets
- The “Blood sugar roller coaster”
- Pictures of foods processed and transformed to different degrees
